Definition |
Acute or acute in chronic inflammation of the gall-bladder generally secondary to gall stone (95% of cases). |

Prognosis |
Good with cholecystectomy. Complication 1% (harmorrhage or bike leak) with laproscopic procedure, and 0.5% with open method (infection). |

General Measures |
Nil by mouth, Intravenous alimentation, analgesics. |
|

Advice to Patient |
Patients with gall stones should avoid fatty meals, as they often precipitate an attack of cholecystitis. |
|
|
Follow Up |
Post cholecystectomy follow p as indicated by surgeon. |
|
|
Inadequate Response |
Persistence of symptoms after cholecystectomy might mean a) mistaken diagnosis originally or b) stone retained in the common duct or c) recurrence of stone in common bile duct or d) spasm of the spinchter of Oddi. |

Prevention |
Those with gall stones to avoid fatty meals. |
